Freiburg topples Frankfurt 1-0 with 89th-minute goal

Visiting upstarts Freiburg scored their first victory at Eintracht Frankfurt in 14 years on Friday and are now off to their best start ever in the Bundesliga after netting the only goal of the match in the 89th minute, dpa reported.

Midfielder Jan Rosenthal delivered the decisive goal, which moves Freiburg to nine points and third place in the Bundesliga ahead of the weekend's action.

Frankfurt remains mired in 12th place and likely to fall over the weekend with three points, and Friday's crowd of more than 40,000 whistled their disfavour as the home team fled the pitch.

Before the lone goal, the officials overlooked the apparently offside Maximilian Nicu, which allowed Freiburg to capture the victory. Frankfurt coach Michael Skibbe called it "a great pity" that the call went unmade.
