Taliban militants attacked a German military convoy in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz, injuring three soldiers, a local official said Saturday, DPA reported.
The convoy was targeted by a rocket propelled grenade Friday night in Charadarah district, Gholam Muhaiyudin, the district police chief, said. "Three German soldiers were slightly injured in the attack and their military tank was destroyed," he said.
Taliban took responsibility for the assault, claiming that four German soldiers were killed.
The attack came hours after a gunman wearing an uniform of the Afghan army opened fire on German troops inside a base in neighboring Baghlan province. He killed three soldiers and injured six others, with two in critical condition.
The Taliban denied that the soldier, who is said to have been killed in the exchange of fire, was one of their members.
A high-level delegate was dispatched to the area to launch an investigation into the incident, the Afghan Defence Ministry said Saturday.
Munshi Abdul Majeed, Baghlan's provincial governor, said initial information indicated that the attacker had political motivation and he might have had links to "terrorist networks."
The Taliban and Hebzi Islami, another insurgent group, are active in Baghlan and Kunduz.
