The whereabouts of around 50 Peruvian citizens who lived in the area of Japan that was worst-affected by last week's quake remained unknown Tuesday, dpa reported
The South American country's ambassador to Japan, Juan Carlos Capunay, was cited by the Peruvian daily Correo as saying that 20 other Peruvians who also lived in the area at the time of the disaster had been located, and that some of them had already reached Tokyo.
There are more than 60,000 Peruvians living in Japan, although most of them live far from the region that was worst-hit by the quake.
The embassy and the social networks connecting Peruvian citizens in Japan are busy trying to locate the missing, particularly 28 Peruvians who lived in Sendai at the time of the disaster and who are all yet to be located.
