A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand North Island's Bay of Plenty on Monday afternoon, Xinhua reported.
The quake was centered 70 km north of White Island and was 270 km deep, the New Zealand Institure of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) said.
It struck the area at 0328 p.m. (0228 GMT) Monday.
The tremor may have been felt in the Bay of Plenty, GNS said.
