US: Damascus has violated ceasefire

The United States said Monday Syria is not adhering to the UN-brokered ceasefire and also ignoring other aspects of the six-point-plan, DPA reported.

The news out of Damascus, "is not good," said a State Department spokesperson. He said that President Bashar al-Assad's regime is not allowing peaceful demonstrations or releasing any political prisoners.

Sporadic fighting continued throughout Syria and there were reports out of Homs, center of the rebellion, of shelling by government troops, said Mark Toner.

It is "very clear that Assad has not complied with the six points" negotiated by UN special envoy Kofi Annan, Toner said.
