At least five people were killed Monday when a suicide bomber blew himself up and other militants opened fire on a courts building in Pakistan's restive north-western province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, officials said, dpa reported.
Some of the militants entered the Judicial Complex in the provincial capital, Peshawar, and police was searching for them, said Mian Iftikhar Hussian, provincial information minister.
Five people were killed and 26 were injured, said Zahid Khan of the state-run Lady Reading Hospital.
The number of militants involved was not immediately known, Hussian said.
"The suicide bomber blew himself up at the beginning of the attack, and then indiscriminate firing started," he said.
No one had taken responsibility for the attack, but Taliban militants frequently target civilians and security forces in the region.
