A laboratory in northern Sweden was to be used to analyze some samples collected in Syria by United Nations weapons inspectors during their recent investigations, the head of the UN team of inspectors said Monday, dpa reported.

Swedish arms expert Ake Sellstrom said the analysis would be conducted at the Swedish Defence Research Laboratory in Umea, northern Sweden, broadcaster TV4 reported.

The analysis was expected to take two weeks, the report said.

Last week, the UN delegation visited two sites of the August 21 alleged chemical weapons attack near Damascus, which the Syrian opposition claims killed hundreds of people.

The UN team left Syria at the weekend. They arrived in Syria on August 18 to investigate three sites, including a March attack on the town of Khan al-Assal, in the northern Aleppo province.
