Total chairman Christophe de Margerie died at the Russian airport Vnukovo last night. Total’s ethics committee and board of directors plan to hold an emergency meeting, the company’s statement quoted Oct. 21 by Interfax agency said.

Total chairman Christophe de Margerie died at the Russian airport Vnukovo last night. Total's ethics committee and board of directors plan to hold an emergency meeting, the company's statement quoted Oct. 21 by Interfax agency said.

Earlier, it was reported that de Margerie was killed as a result of a collision between a Falcon airplane and a snow-plough at the Vnukovo airport the evening of Oct. 20. The Russian investigative committee said that the driver of the snow-plough was drunk.

The corporation issued a statement in which de Margerie's death in Moscow was confirmed. Four people on board were killed. A criminal case was filed.

Sixty-three-year-old de Margerie arrived in Moscow to attend a meeting of the Consultative Council on Foreign Investments in Russia, held by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev Oct. 20.
