MPs of the European Parliament (EP) demanded an "international investigation" of Boris Nemtsov's murder, said a resolution adopted on March 12 by MPs at the EP plenary session in Strasbourg, TASS Russian news agency reported.

MPs believe that the death of Nemtsov is "the most significant political assassination in modern Russian history," the document said.

They are asking for "an international investigation, given that the tools available within the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the United Nations can help to ensure the impartiality and integrity of the investigation."

In addition, MPs condemned "the decision of the Russian leadership to impede participation of some EU diplomats and national delegations in Nemtsov's funeral."

Nemtsov, who formerly held several senior positions in the Russian government, and then became an oppositionist, was shot dead in central Moscow on the night of Feb. 27. Moscow's Basmanny Court on Mar.8 took into custody Anzor Gubashev and Shagid Gubashev, Tamerlan Eskerhanov, Hamzad Bakhaev and Zaur Dadaev, who were detained for the murder of the politician, until April 28.
