US senator Marco Rubio announces to be private citizen in January 2017
Former Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio announced on Thursday he will not become a vice presidential running-mate and will leave his position as US Senator next January, Sputnik reported.
Earlier in the week, Rubio suspended his presidential campaign after losing the primary election in his home state of Florida to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
"I'm not going to be vice president, I'm not running for governor of Florida," Rubio told reporters. "I'm going to finish out my term in the Senate over the next ten months. We're going to work really hard here as we have some things we want to achieve, and then I'll be a private citizen."
