All affected terminals at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport were searched after reports of gunfire spread panic and they will resume operations shortly, the city police department said in a Twitter post, Bloomberg reported.

The search yielded “negative results,” and “no shots were fired,” the New York Police

Department said. Authorities had earlier received reports of gunshots at Terminal 8 at about 9:30 p.m., while similar reports had prompted the closing of Terminal 1 at about 10:15 p.m., according to an e-mailed statement from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The two terminals were evacuated.

American Airlines closed its ticket counter at JFK as a result of the incident and is working with local authorities, spokeswoman Victoria Lupica said by telephone. She had no additional information about the reports.

“To be cautious, the terminal was evacuated,” the Port Authority said in its statement earlier.

“There are no injuries. At this time, no firearm, rounds or shell casings or other evidence of shots fired has been found.”
