President Bashar al-Asad of Syria has said that Turkey was one of a few countries taking initiative regarding the Middle East peace process, and thanked Turkish authorities, reported Worldbulletin.
A joint press conference was held at the end of the quartet summit in the Syrian capital city of Damascus.
President al-Asad said at the conference that Turkey was the only country taking the initiative for indirect talks between Syria and Israel.
He highlighted importance of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's reliability and Turkey's mediation in the process.
President al-Asad also added that they attached importance to Turkey's proposal for a Caucasian Stability Platform.
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan, President Nikolas Sarkozy of France, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU), and Amir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani of Qatar holding the presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council are attending the summit hosted by President al-Asad of Syria hosts the summit as the current president of the Arab League.
