Turkey faces France in Lyon on Friday

Türkiye Materials 5 June 2009 12:09 (UTC +04:00)

The Turkish national soccer team will play France away in at the Stade de Gerland in Lyon Friday evening in a warm-up match for the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifying games, local media Today's Zaman reported Friday.

Both Turkey and France were in action in friendlies on Tuesday and the Turks shut out visiting Azerbaijan 2-0 at the newly built Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri province of central Turkey, while the French was beaten at home by the Super Eagles -- the nickname of the Nigerian national team, Xinhua reported.

There is nothing at stake in the Lyon game, but no-nonsense Turkish coach Fatih Terim is someone who does not like to lose and will be taking Friday evening's match seriously.

Turkey is placed 12th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association's (FIFA) world ranking, which was announced on Wednesday, and France is 10th and so it is expected to be an eventually matched game.
