The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan didn't hand over his powers to the ex-leader of the Republican People's Party, the Turkish Resmi Gazete said June 12.

For the time of the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Azerbaijan, his powers were handed over to the Speaker of Turkish Parliament Cemil Cicek.

It was earlier reported that during the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Azerbaijan his powers will be handed over to the ex-leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Deniz Baykal.

Baykal, elected to Turkey's parliament, will be the oldest MP. He will be elected the parliament's speaker.

Under the Turkish laws, in the absence of the country's president, his powers are transferred to the speaker of the parliament.

Erdogan will be in Baku to observe the opening ceremony of the first-ever European Games.

The president is accompanied by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.
