By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey has demanded Russia to respect the principle prohibiting the violation of countries' airspace, TRT Haber TV channel quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying Oct.7.

He said the relations between Russia and Turkey shouldn't suffer due to the Syrian crisis.

Ankara doesn't want to spoil the relations with Russia, however, the latter should respect its interests in Syria, Davutoglu added.

Turkey's foreign minister stated that Russia's air forces are striking not the positions of the "Islamic State" terrorist organization.

Recently, the two countries had an incident related to the violation of Turkey's airspace by Russian aircraft.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry said that the planes of Russian air forces, involved in the military operation in Syria, violated Turkey's airspace on Oct. 3. The aircraft of Turkish air forces carried out warning sorties following the violation of the country's airspace. After this Russian planes left the Turkish airspace.

Following the incident, Russian ambassador to Turkey was summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry to clarify the situation.

Moreover, earlier, commenting on the incident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country won't allow the repeated violation of its airspace by Russian air forces.

The president noted that any violation of Turkish borders is a violation of NATO's borders.

"I believe Russia will not want to spoil the relations with Turkey," said Erdogan.
