From January through October 2019, the volume of Turkey's defense industry exports increased by 37.5 percent, compared to the same period in 2018, and exceeded $2.1 billion, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Trade Ministry.
According to the ministry, exports of the Turkish defense industry during the reported period accounted for 1.4 percent of Turkey's total exports.
In October 2019, exports of Turkey's defense industry increased by 35.8 percent, compared to October 2018, and slightly exceeded $280.6 million.
In October 2019, the volume of Turkey's defense industry exports amounted to 1.7 percent of the volume of its total exports.
Over the past 12 months (October 2018 - October 2019), exports of Turkey's defense industry increased by 35.5 percent, compared to the same period in 2017-2018, and amounted to slightly over $2.6 billion.
As stated earlier by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey will strengthen its defense industry and become a global leader in the manufacture of defense products.
In recent years, Turkey has invested about $35 billion in its defense industry.
