Uzbekistan ratifies agreement with Great Britain on goods and personnel air transit

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Dec. 6 / Trend D.Azizov /

The Uzbek Senate has ratified an agreement on Thursday between the governments of Uzbekistan and Great Britain on the air transit of goods and personnel across the country.

Previously, it was reported that a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on the air transit of goods and personnel through the territory of Uzbekistan in connection with the participation of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in efforts to ensure the security, stability and recovery in Afghanistan, was signed on September 5 in Tashkent

According to the document, the transit is carried out using air corridors specially designated for this purpose by the Uzbek side without making intermediate stops on the territory of Uzbekistan, except in case of an emergency situation on board or force majeure circumstances.

In case of an emergency situation or other circumstances the British government has to notify the Uzbek side on the need of landing on the territory of the country.

Transportation of nuclear, bacteriological, chemical and other weapons is excluded in transit implementation.

Reportedly in August, the Uzbek Senate ratified a similar agreement with the U.S.

The agreement was signed in line with a UN Security Council resolution calling on states bordering Afghanistan to provide the necessary assistance to the International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan.
