Nuclear research and development to focus on peaceful programs- Iran says

Tehran, Iran, July 6

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Once Iran gets its right to nuclear research and development, it will use the right in the service of peaceful programs, an Iranian MP said.

"We are after medical, industrial, and other peaceful applications of the nuclear energy," Mohammad Said Ansari, first deputy chairman of the Energy Commission of Iran's Parliament told Trend July 6.

"As Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, we do not seek destructive weapons," he stressed, adding that Iran 's innocent nuclear program is clear and known to all.

Ansari made the remarks three day ahead of the July 9 deadline set by Iran and the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) to reach a comprehensive deal on Iran's nuclear program.

One of the issues Iran is following in its nuclear talks with the world powers is the right to a nuclear research and development program.

If the agreement is made and Iran is granted the right, it will be a victory and very valuable for the country, the MP noted.

He added that Iran would definitely use its right to continue the research and development program.

Iranian authorities have frequently said the nuclear research and development program is a red line for them in striking a deal with the world powers.

They say they will not compromise what they see as a right.
