Baku, Azerbaijan, September 15

China has been a friend to Iran during hard times, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.
Zarif said the trip was a necessary move before his trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly, Mehr news agency reported September 15.
Expressing gratitude to China for playing a positive role in the Iran nuclear talks, Zarif said Iran intends to expand bilateral ties with Beijing as a strategic partner in the post-nuclear deal era.
"After the nuclear conclusion, the international vibe has turned mostly in favor of Iran and your country's foreign relations have got much better, and we are happy for that as a friend and partner to Iran," the Chinese minister told Zarif.
Speaking after the meeting, Yi said he and Zarif mainly discussed the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear case as well as ways to improve Tehran-Beijing relations in all areas.
Upon arrival in Beijing, Zarif said Iran expects China to continue its positive role into the implementation of the JCPOA.
He also said meeting the regional terror threats is also needed to be discussed with China.
