Kazakh Parliament's leadership and U.S. Congress' delegation headed by Chairman of the Subcommittee for Europe and Eurasia of the Committee on Foreign Relations of U.S. Congress Dan Burton discuss the cooperation in Astana on Monday.

In particular, the U.S. Congress' delegation met with head of the Kazakh Senate (upper house of the parliament) Kairat Mami, Senate reported.

"We welcome the growing interest of the U.S. Congress for Kazakhstan, and on the other hand are also interested in developing the cooperation with U.S. colleagues," Mami said at the meeting.

Mami added that the development of the relations with the U. S. is one of the priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy.

"We strive to ensure further consistent development of the relations between two countries and highly appreciate these relations," Mami said.

Burton, in turn, thanked the Kazakh party for its contribution into nuclear disarmament and non- proliferation, as well as efforts to stabilize situation in Afghanistan.

Moreover, within the visit to Kazakhstan, the delegation of U.S. Congress met with head of Kazakh Majilis (the Parliament's lower chamber) Nurlan Nigmatulin, Majilis reported.

The parties discussed the cooperation between Kazakh Majilis and U.S. Congress and expressed hope that the development of cooperation between the legislative bodies would strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

A group of cooperation with U.S. parliamentarians operates in Kazakh Majilis and U.S. Congress has the Club 'Friends of Kazakhstan.'
