Georgian PM views construction of two hydroelectric power stations on Russian border

Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili and Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Chocheli Caesar visited a number of sites in the Kazbegi region.

At first, along with the Energy Minister Vakhtang Balavadze they viewed the construction of the Lars and Dariali hydroelectric plants on the river Terek.

Construction using the latest technology will be completed in 2014. Putting the hydropower plant into operation will ensure uninterrupted power supply to the regions of Georgia.

Construction of the two hydropower plants began last year. Their total capacity is 127 MW and annual output - 619 million kilowatt / hours. Investment in the construction amounted to $155 million. Some 328 people, mostly locals are employed at the sites.

Following on, the Prime Minister then visited the Rooms Hotel Kazbegi opened in the village of Stepantsminda and talked with the tourists. The 156-bed hotel was opened in July.
