An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted 168km SSE of Hachijo-jima, Japan at 16:50: 46 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, Xinhua reported.

The epicenter, with a depth of 32.54 km, was initially determined to be at 31.5938 degrees north latitude and 140.1671 degrees east longitude.
