Ashgabat to mull Convention on Caspian legal status

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 4 / Trend , H.Hasanov/

Today Ashgabat is hosting a regular two-day meeting of the Special Working Group on the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

The meeting is held at the level of deputy foreign ministers of Caspian littoral states - Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan were able to resolve the issue of dividing the bottom of the Caspian Sea both on bilateral and trilateral basis. The parties also agreed on defining the coordinates of the dividing line. The question is not coordinated with only two countries - Turkmenistan, and Iran, due to which, despite many-year discussions, the status of the Caspian Sea has not yet been determined.
