Baku, Azerbaijan, May 4
By Elena Kosolapova - Trend:
There is every reason to expect good performances and high results from Azerbaijani rhythmic gymnasts during the European Games, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national rhythmic gymnastics Mariana Vasileva told Trend May 4.
Vasileva made this statement immediately after arrival in Baku following the European championship in Minsk.
"I hope that our gymnasts will perform at the European Games as well as at the European Championship in Baku in 2014," she said. "As these will be the first European Games, our names will be written in history."
"The rhythmic gymnastics is a subjective kind of sport and it is difficult to make predictions about the results at the European Games," she said.
Vasileva is pleased with the performance of the Azerbaijani rhythmic gymnastics team at the championship in Minsk.
Azerbaijani gymnast Marina Durunda won her first senior bronze medal during the championship," she said.
Vasileva is very happy with Durunda's result.
"Gymnast Ayshan Bayramova, who was the debutant of the European championship, performed very well at the championship in Minsk," she said. "Bayramova managed to win the license for the next European Championship. Only the first 20 gymnasts are eligible to participate in the next European Championship."
Vasileva said that the junior team also performed well.
"We are very happy and think that in the future our gymnasts' performances will be assessed even better," she said.
Two gymnasts, performing with the individual programs, Marina Durunda and Ayshan Bayramova, as well as a junior team in group exercises (Zuleyha Ismayilova, Simara Jafarova, Fatima Jafarova, Ilaha Mammadova and Daria Sorokina) represented Azerbaijan at the 31st European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship.
