BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 22. The railway passenger traffic in Azerbaijan amounted to over 1.8 million people from January through March 2024, up 24.6 percent year on year, a source in the local State Statistics Committee (SSC) told Trend.
Azerbaijan's railroad transported 4.5 million tons of cargo in the reporting period, which is 0.3 percent more than the indicator of the same period in 2023.
On average, 355 wagons were loaded and 416 wagons were unloaded per day.
Out of the mentioned volume of cargo, 16,300 tons were transported per day on average along the North route, 3,400 tons per day in the West direction, and 900 tons per day to the South.
In total, during the specified period, carriers served 452.9 million passengers. 87.6 percent of passengers were transported by road, 11.8 percent by metro, and the rest by other modes of transport.
