Hurricane Hits Azerbaijan’s South Region

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 March / Trend corr. P. Aliyeva / Strong winds, which began in the south region of Azerbaijan on the eve of 3 March, has caused problems with the electric energy supply in some of the areas.

Shirin Guliyev, Director of Limited Responsibility Community of Lankaran Regional Energy Providing Department, stated that electricity lines were damaged as a result of the strong winds. The energy supply in 70 or 80% of the villages in the Yardimli region was terminated.

Officials of the Emergency Commission are currently at the scene to examine the extent of the damage.

South regions of Azerbaijan are located 170 km or 350 km from Baku.
