Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 January / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / The number of the Azerbaijani citizens' complaints of the police has not increased.
"Last year the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration received 4,486 complaints of police, which is a stable index compared to 2006, Fuad Alaskarov, the head of the Law-enforcement Department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, said 26 January at a collective meeting at the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry dedicated to the results of the activities intended for prevention of delinquency and provision of social security in 2007.
At the end of each year the Azerbaijani Administration investigates the complaints and takes adequate measures.
According to Alaskarov, 307 police officers were made answerable in 2007 for bribery and other breaches of law.
Drug trafficking cases increased for the south region of Azerbaijan in 2007. The joint operations held by the National Security Ministry, the Internal Ministry and the State Border Service in this sphere gave its positive results. In 2007, solving of drug trafficking facts increased by 12% as compared to 2006, Alaskarov said.
The Azerbaijani President ratified the State Program for 2007- 2012 in order to prevent drug trafficking and to intensify the struggle against drug addiction. According to Alaskarov, the law-enforcement bodies have to submit the report on implementation of the program by the end of 2008.
