Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 7 / Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva/
The Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Center will soon open its doors and join the fight against drugs, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Permanent Defense and Security Commission Aydin Mirzazade told Trend on Jan. 7.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan signed an agreement to open the center on June 26, 2006. The center will be located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and begin operating as soon as the parliaments of all participant countries have ratified the agreement. Azerbaijan's parliament has already signed the document.
The Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Center will be financed by donor states, international organizations and endowments from member-countries, Mirzazade said.
The center will coordinate regional efforts in the fight against drugs, ensure communications between authoritative bodies and assist in combating international narcotics-related organized crime.
