Major thrust of Georgia's national doctrine is to enter NATO: Defence Minister

The main thrust of Georgia's doctrine is to enter NATO, Defense Minister David Sikharulidze said.

Today, minister opened the international conference on security issues in Batumi. NATO military and civil experts attended the conference.

"We have presented a new security doctrine in January and its main purpose is to join the alliance. As a result, Georgia may become a member of the international security system, " said the minister.

Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Baramidze said the Georgia's security doctrine must be adapted to the Russian presence in the region. "We intend to improve the security doctrine with the help of our NATO friends," he said.

The Conference will last two days and recommendations to the draft of security doctrine will be adopted tomorrow.
