Azerbaijan, Italy to enhance cooperation: ambassador

The Italian government is preparing Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's official visit to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani ambassador to Italy Emil Karimov said.

The governments of both countries are working on draft agreements to be signed during Italian prime minister's visit to Azerbaijan.

The visit is expected to take place in autumn. Exact date has not been set yet, the ambassador said.

Berlusconi's visit to Azerbaijan was coordinated during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Italy in November 2008.

Bilateral and multilateral cooperation is expected to be discussed in Baku.

Great part of Azerbaijan's exports accounted for Italy in the first quarter of 2009. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, goods worth $763.3 million were exported from Azerbaijan to Italy which makes up 30.75 percent of total exports. Mainly oil and oil products were exported. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy totaled $788.5 million in the first quarter of 2009.
