The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) holds consultations for Turkmenistan to improve national legislation, in particular, the development of a unified electoral code.
A "round table" was held a few days ago in Ashgabat under the joint project "Cooperation to strengthen the electoral system and processes in Turkmenistan". UNDP consultant in Turkmenistan Daniel Finn spoke as an expert.
This project is being implemented with the participation of the Foreign Ministry and National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the Turkmen President.
Discussions were held with the participation of Turkmen MPs, as well as members of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendum of Turkmenistan, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Justice, the Institute of State and Law under the Turkmen President and others.
A comprehensive program for the improvement and development of the national legislative base provides for implementation of the generally accepted international legal norms in today's Turkmenistan.
The beginning of the process was the adoption of the new Constitution of Turkmenistan, which included the democratic principles of the electoral system of the country.
