French Foreign and European Affairs Minister Bernard Kouchner arrived in Georgia yesterday to meet with the government and the opposition.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili put on a dinner for Kouchner last night.
Kouchner was served cake in the shape of the French flag. A fireworks display was also held in honor of Bastille Day in Tbilisi, the French Embassy in Georgia reported.
Kouchner held a working breakfast with the opposition this morning. Republican Party leader Tina Khidasheli, Movement for Fair Georgia member Petre Mamradze, Democratic Movement - United Georgia leader Nino Burjanadze and Our Georgia - Free Democrats Chairman Irakli Alasania attended.
He will also meet this afternoon with the diplomatic corps and civil society to discuss "Europe: Past and Future Challenges" at the Europe House. Afterward, Kouchner will meet with Saakashvili and later Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze.
Kouchner will also travel to Coda to see a refugee camp. He will meet with Georgian Refugee and Resettlement Minister Koba Subeliani, U.N. Foundation Representative Peter Nicholas, EU Monitoring Mission Chief Hans-Joerg Habber and Deputy Chief, General Gilles Janvier.
