Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 25 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The human rights situation in Azerbaijan has been distorted in Freedom House's reports for several years, ruling New Azerbaijan Party Deputy Chairman Ali Ahmadov told Trend today.

"These distortions are not random," he said. The claims occurring from year to year can not be accidental."

A barometer of the human rights situation in each country is the relations and views of the country's population.

"The main criterion for assessing the situation must be the level of peace in the country, its development, and citizens' confidence in the authorities," he said.

He said this is not the first time when Freedom House's reports have been biased against Azerbaijan.

"There is sufficient evidence to prove this," he said.

In its annual report, the organization expressed a negative opinion about human rights in Azerbaijan.
