Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.9 / Trend, M. Aliyev /

Simplification of the visa system between Azerbaijan and the European Union will be applied first to those countries which hold the largest number of Azerbaijani citizens either studying or on a temporary residency, head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia told journalists on Thursday.

"While the main issue is to simplify the process for Azerbaijani citizens, we would like to see it also applied the EU citizens who want to visit Azerbaijan. Thus, it would be possible to simplify rules for entry into Azerbaijan for the EU countries' citizens wishing to see the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku," he said.

Negotiations on simplifying visa process between Azerbaijan and the European Union will be held on March 1-2, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told journalists on Thursday. Earlier the meeting had been postponed due to bad weather conditions in Baku.

The first meeting on visa facilitation was scheduled for the first week of February. On Dec.20, 2011, the EU Council of Ministers gave a mandate to start negotiations with Azerbaijan on this issue.

Visa facilitation will simplify a procedure of obtaining visas for certain categories of people and reduce visa fee, as well as the necessary documents.
