Tensions that have developed recently in relations between Turkey and Egypt will not affect the economic cooperation between the two countries, expert at the Egyptian newspaper "Jumhuriya" Hisham Basyuni says.

"Economic interests in bilateral relations between all countries is a priority. No matter how much relations between Egypt and Turkey deteriorate, the economic relationship is unlikely to be affected," Basyuni told Trend.

According to the analyst, there are many Turkish investors engaged in projects in different areas of Egypt. There are also many joint economic projects that can not be put in jeopardy.

Earlier, Turkey decided to freeze the number of agreements with Egypt. It is reported that among the frozen bilateral agreements are those in transport, education and health care. In addition, Turkey suspended deliveries of Turkish manufactured ANKA drones to Egypt.

The hauling of ro-ro cargo ships from the Turkish port of Iskenderun to Egyptian Port Said was also suspended.

Basyuni also noted that although tensions in Turkish-Egyptian relations will not affect economic cooperation, crisis may be observed in political relations.

"The tension between Egypt and Turkey can develop into a political crisis. Egypt will not allow Ankara to intervene in the country's internal affairs," he said.

Some tension were observed in relations between Turkey and Egypt following the overthrow of President Morsi. Ankara has called the events in Egypt "a military coup" and said the new regime is illegitimate.

Egypt's army ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi on July 3, suspended the Constitution and instructed the head of the Constitutional Court to act as the head of state during the transitional period.

On Friday, an Egyptian court decided to have Morsi arrested for 15 days as part of an ongoing investigation. The court accused Morsi of cooperation with Hamas as well as escaping from prison during the 2011 revolution.
