Over 4.4 billion manat ($2.6 billion) or 16.8 percent of the state budget funds was allocated for Azerbaijan’s defense and national security field last year, the bill on ‘Implementation of the Azerbaijani state budget in 2020’ said, Trend reports on May 24.
The above figure means an increase of 1.64 billion manat ($960 million) or 31.6 percent compared to 2019.
According to the bill, of these funds, 1.62 billion manat ($950 million) were allocated for the defense, 240.67 million manat ($141.57 million) - for national security, 278.8 million manat ($164 million) - for the border service, 3.7 million manat ($2.1 million) - for research in the field of defense and national security, and 1.6 billion manat ($940 million) - for other activities related to the field.
Besides, 139 million manat ($81.7 million) was allocated from the 2020 state budget to finance special defense projects.
