Azerbaijani Grand Master Leaves Behind Leader by Half Point

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 January / Trend / Teymur Rajabov and Shahriyar Mammadyarov, the Azerbaijani grand masters, scored a half a point each at the penultimate Corus Chess-2008 tournament in Wijk aan Zee,Holland.

Mammadyarov drew against Boris Gelfand, the Israeli grand master in his game. Rajabov's game finished in a draw against Peter Leko, the Hungarian grand master.

Vladimir Kramnik, from Russia, lost to Magnus Karlsen, from Norway, in the 12th round, RIA NEWS reported. Pavel Elyanov defeated Veselin Topalov. Yudit Polgar, from Hungary, defeated the British player, Michael Adams.

Games between Luk van Veli, the Netherlands and Vishvanatan Anand from India, and Levon Aronan, Armenia and Vasili Ivanchuk, Ukraine all ended in draws.

Karlsen and Aronan, the leaders in the tournament scored the same points (7.5 points), Anand and Rajabov - 7 points, Ivanchuk 6.5 points, Kramnik, Mamadyarov, Adams and Leko - 6 points.

The last round will be held on 27 January.
