Azerbaijan to ensure copyright in Internet

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 14 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The Internet Copyright Protection Center will operate in the Azerbaijani Copyright Agency this year, the director of the agency Kamran Imanov told Trend.

"A model of managing digital rights on the Internet is being established by the agency with the support of the relevant EU organizations," he said.

According to him, the center will apply copyright management by means of modern IT-technologies.

According to Imanov, at present roughly 95 percent of materials available on the Internet can be obtained without observing copyright rules.

"It is impossible to completely prevent all violations of copyright in the Internet and other digital media," he said. "But we intend to reduce them to a minimum."

Azerbaijan has the necessary legislative base for ensuring the copyright, he said. "The World Intellectual Property Organization signed the Treaty on Copyright rules for the Internet in 1996," he said. Azerbaijani legislation has been amended in accordance with this agreement."
