The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has officially issued a warning to the human rights activist Leyla Yunus and her representative Khalid Baghirov.

"Without a reasonable excuse, Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus didn't appear for interrogation in a case pleaded by the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office. Despite the summons sent, they deliberately didn't come and thus violated the law," the Prosecutor General's Office said on May 30.

At the same time, Leyla Yunus defiantly stated through media outlets and social networks that she will neither give testimony nor sign the protocols on refusing to accept the summons to the Prosecutor General's Office.

Leyla Yunus' representative, Khalid Bagirov has been warned that extreme measures can be taken in respect to a person who deliberately evades interrogation, refuses to accept the summons to the investigating authorities, as well as in respect to a person who intentionally interferes in the investigation process, in accordance with the Article 178 of Azerbaijan's Criminal Code.

Moreover, the Prosecutor General's Office will put forward a plea for the arrest of Leyla Yunus.
