Initial Research of Archaeological Discoveries in Azerbaijani Region of Shamakhy Completed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Experts of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) have completed their initial research of ancient settlements, graves, and copper coins of the middle ages, which were discovered several days ago in the Azerbaijani region of Shamakhy, the Deputy Director of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute, Najaf Museyibli, said on 22 June. According to Museyibli, the research revealed that the discovered settlement was from the 12th-13th centuries.

On 20 June the ancient settlement and artefacts were found in the area of Nagrakhan village of the Shamakhy region by the Azerenerji OLSC during construction-repair work. The Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry ordered an immediate halt to the repair work and a letter of advisement was sent to Azerenerji.

Museyibli reported that the construction-repair work will not be resumed until the archaeological research is completed.
