BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 16. Industrial zones contribute to the expansion of entrepreneurial activities in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Agency for Development of Economic Zones Elshad Nuriyev told Trend.
According to Nuriyev, these zones also contribute to the development of business efficiency, the creation of high-tech competitive products, reduce dependence on oil and gas, and increase employment.
"One of the most important areas of economic policy pursued by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is the development of industry, especially non-oil industry,” he said. “Among other areas, special attention is paid to the efficient use of available natural and economic resources, the growth of industrial production, and the creation of new enterprises.”
“Moreover, systematic and result-oriented measures are underway to create value-added products, and modern technologies are being applied,” the agency’s head noted. “The use of progressive mechanisms in accordance with the requirements of the economic development of the new era, and the creation of industrial zones (technoparks) assume a particular importance.”
Nuriyev reminded that the Agency for the Development of Economic Zones was established under the Ministry of Economy last year to improve the management of industrial zones.
"The activities of our agency cover six industrial zones in Sumgayit, Pirallahi, Mingachevir, Garadagh, Aghdam, Jabrayil, as well as the Araz Valley Economic Zone industrial park. The agency also manages four industrial regions: Sabirabad, Masalli, Neftchala, Hajigabul and 51 agricultural parks," he added.
