Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Plans to Put into Operation Concrete Highway Plot in Autumn

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 August / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov / According to the Azeryolservice OJSC, construction of a new concrete plot of the Baku-Guba- Russian border highway is expected to be completed in November 2008.

According to a press-release from Akkord company, which is engaged in contraction of the highway, the opening ceremony was held on the 16 to 34km of the highway. President Ilham Aliyev attended at the opening ceremony.

Over 100km of the road was placed of concrete; in particular the Baku-Sumgayit plot has been already concreted.

The Baku-Guba-Russian border project is implemented thought the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The total length of the highway is 208km.

The primary cost of the project is $400mln, but the decision to construct the concrete road led to increase in prices of the project to $800mln.

Twenty-one bridges and 10 road stations are planned to construct during the highway. Total thick of the concrete cover is 28cm.
