Azerbaijan’s Newly-Appointed Economic Development Minister Announces Plans to Improve Work of Ministry

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 November/ Trend , I. Khalilova/ "President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is concerned over and dissatisfied with the activities of the Ministry of Economic Development, in particular, activities of some of its agencies," Shahin Mustafayev, new minister of economic development of Azerbaijan appointed on 31 October, said.

"Heads of these agencies have already been dismissed. Investigation and check-ups will be conducted into these agencies," Mustafayev said.

Elchin Zeynalov, acting chief of State Anti-Monopoly Service at the Ministry of Economic Development, Aslan Jafarov, acting chief of State Consumer Market Control Service and Khalig Mammadov, executive director of National Entrepreneurship Support Fund have been dismissed at the order of a new minister later this week. Their office has been taken over by deputies for the time being.

Mustafayev said the focus of the Ministry is not to check up entrepreneurs without reason. The check-ups should be carried out in connection with the support rendered to them.

"The Ministry of Economic Development will assist in development of entrepreneurship," minister said.

He said internal control body in the administration of the Ministry is scheduled to be set up soon. "Unfortunately, there has not been such body so far. The new body will investigate the activities of agencies of the Ministry. We will turn to other governmental agencies if necessary," minister added.

The future activities of the Ministry will focus on promoting national entrepreneurship, Mustafayev said.

"We plan to remove major shortcoming so that to make projects more real and efficient. The crediting should be carried out in a more transparent way. The development of the regions should be key priority," Mustafayev said.

The activities of Anti-Monopoly Service as well are very crucial, he noted.

"We are also going to investigate activities of this agency and improve it. The chief goal is to eliminate unreasonable intervention and steps of entrepreneurs," minister said.
