USAID supports food projects in Turkmenistan

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported some food projects in Turkmenistan, the press release of U.S embassy on Jan. 23 says.

Early 2009 four projects on economic development were registered under the Turkmen Ministry of Economy and Development financed by the U.S Agency. This list includes mini-workshop on milk processing in Geok-tepe etrap (region) Akhal velayat (district); construction of greenhouse in Boldumsaz etrap Dashoguz velayat; construction of cattle farm in Kaakhkin etrap Akhal velayat; construction of storehouse for fruits and vegetables in Geroglin etrap Dashoguz velayat.

All the projects implemented under Kaunterpart International assistance within the framework of "Local initiatives for development" program financed by USAID. These projects are directed to strengthen basis of local economic development, to ensure stabile growth of agricultural production and plenty of foodstuffs production.

"Local initiatives for development" program is one of the most projects of assistance implemented by USAID. Since 1993 the Agency provided more $80 million to support economic development, social sector and public initiatives in Turkmenistan.
