Azerbaijan allots one bln manat to social allowances in 2008

Revenues at the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund hit 1.39 million manat in 2008, a 427-million-manat or 44.1-percent increase from 2007, fund head Salim Muslumov said on Feb. 12.

"State social insurance revenues reached 957.9 million manat in 2008, or a 39.3-percent or 270.4-million-manat increase from the previous year," he said.  

Obligatory social insurance revenues from non-budget organizations rose by 37.1 percent or 17.7 million manat from 2007.

The State Social Protection Fund intensified activities to attract individuals and land owners to pay social insurance. Revenues from individuals rose by 82 percent and from land owners by 69 percent, Muslumov said.

"The State Social Protection Fund expenditures hit 1.39 billion manat in 2008. A total of 1.34 billion manat were appropriated for social allowances and pensions, a 41-percent increase from 2007," he said.  

The minimum wage increased from 60 to 75 manat in 2008. Pensions increased 50 percent for the year.
