Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb. 27 / Trend , E. Hasanov/ The UN Population Fund director Matthew Kahane discussed cooperation opportunities and the population census to be held in Turkmenistan in 2012.
The talks in Ashgabat focused on reproductive health, mother and child protection, demography, gender and assisting with designing population policy. Kahane is expected to hold a number of meetings in the parliament, State Statistics Committee, Foreign Ministry and Health Care Ministry.
The UN member states are expected to conduct population and housing census from 2005 to 2014. Turkmenistan conducted the last census in 1995. The 2012 census aims to obtain comprehensive information about number, demographic composition and life conditions of population. The afore-said factors are needed to implement state and public development strategy.
The State Statistics Committee will design the project. Methodological and organizational regulations and certain instructions will be designed and boundaries of territorial divisions will be defined as a first step.
