A patient with the swine flu is undergoing treatment at the Azerbaijani Lung Diseases Research Institute and shows signs of improvement, Azerbaijani Republican Anti-Plague Station Deputy Director Shair Gurbanov said.
"Another patient, who was allowed to go home, also feels well," he said. "He has not exhibited the clinical symptoms of the virus."
Speaking about the possible spread of the virus to individuals who have made contact with the patients, Gurbanov said preventive measures are already under way.
An Azerbaijani citizen was diagnosed with the A/H1N1 virus Nov. 4. The individual temporarily resides in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region, and returned to Kurdamir by rail Oct. 26.
Two more cases of the swine flu were discovered the following day. One patient is a relative of the aforementioned patient. The second individual also arrived from Ukraine in November.
The WHO has donated 300 million doses of a vaccine against the A/H1N1 virus to 90 countries, including Azerbaijan. The first shipment will be delivered to the country in November. Vaccination will be carried out among people at risk group.
