Today Baku has opened an international conference of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy organized jointly with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the topic "Key issues of the world economy for countries with transition economies." The opening ceremony was attended by UNCTAD Secretary General Supachai Panitchpakdi.

"I am satisfied with Azerbaijan's economic development. Despite the financial crisis in 2009, Azerbaijan was not subjected to inflation and the financial system's problems, the state was able to avoid these difficulties," Supachai said at the opening of the conference.

According to Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy rector Hafiz Pashayev, focus on economic issues is very timely for Azerbaijan, "as we now live in an interesting economic period."

Supachai expressed satisfaction with poverty reduction in Azerbaijan, and with the fact that the country can invest material resources in the population's social development.

The conference was attended by over twenty representatives from various countries. It will last until August 6.
