Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 28 /Trend, A.Akhundov/

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has approved the Action Plan on spending the 14.5 million euros grant allocated to Azerbaijan by the European Commission within the support for the reforms in the sphere of justice, the official website of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

The Action Plan envisages increasing the capacity of regional offices of justice, the Academy of Justice, the Penal Service and the improvement of prison conditions. These activities are envisaged to be implemented in 2010-2012.

The activities implied within the Action Plan will be financed at the expense of the budget provided for the implementation of national action program for 2008 under the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) for Azerbaijan. Program to support reforms in the field of justice is a component of the National Action Program of ENP. The 2008 budget has been approved in amount of 22 million euros, and support for reforms in justice will be made through the public budget, that is, the grant funds will be forwarded to the EU budget.

The ENP Action Plan priorities for Azerbaijan approved in November 2006 in Brussels are: strengthening democracy, improving business and investment climate, supporting durable economic development, harmonizing legislation in economic and management practices, and strengthening EU-Azerbaijan cooperation in energy and transport.
