Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.9 / Trend, V.Zhavoronkova /
Turkmenistan expects to adopt a new price index for the products of raw cotton processing, a source at the State Concern Turkmenpagta (Turkmencotton) told Trend today.
"A scheme of price formation will change as soon as the relevant document is signed," the source said.

The source stressed that it will be signed in the near future, however, the specific date is unknown. The prices are determined in accordance with the Uzbek pricing index.
"Perhaps, the new prices for the concern's products will be focused on the international index of A (Cotlook A Index), or on the average index between the index A and Uzbek," the source said.

According to the "Turkmenpagta" representative, due to impending changes in the scheme for setting price of cotton in the cotton fair, which ended in Ashgabat on Thursday, the agreements on sale of concrete volumes of the State Concern's products were not achieved.
The International Cotton Fair was held in Ashgabat on Dec.6-8 for the first time.

Specific plans to find new buyers of the State Concern's products will be made after adopting new pricing schemes, he said.

According to the source, it is likely that first price of fine-fiber cotton will be set. No agreements were achieved on medium-fiber cotton yet, but work is underway in this direction.
Turkmenistan is one of ten world cotton producers.

The country has 36 ginneries at the State Concern "Turkmenpagta" (Turkmen Cotton). Raw cotton grows in five provinces (regions) in Turkmenistan: Akhal, Mary, Lebap, Dashoguz and Balkan.
Medium-fiber cotton of Upland type grows in all regions of the country, fine-fibre cotton of as Pima type in the Akhal and Mary provinces. Cotton production is sold through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.
Crop harvesting is carried out from August to October. This year it continued also in November.
